At the conclusion of this session, you should be able to:
  • Describe the relationship between obesity and the risk of Type 2 diabetes and the benefits of lifestyle modification (IE diet and exercise) in reducing the risk and helping to manage patients with Type 2 diabetes
  • Describe the current 2009 ADA clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus.
  • Discuss the appropriate use of insulin, exanitide and oral agents in the management of patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Describe the benefits of treating both blood pressure and lipids in patients with Type 2 diabetes
  • Discuss the potential benefits and risks of aggressive treatment of glucose in patients with Type 2 diabetes
