Evidence Based Medicine: Best Practices in Psychiatry, Psychotic Disorders and Mood Disorders At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to: (1) Critically evaluate tolerability and efficacy data pertaining to long-term pharmacotherapy for psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. (2) Discuss novel strategies and delivery mechanisms for pharmacologic agents used in the management of psychotic and mood disorders. (3) Apply evidence-based strategies and delineate appropriate interventions for psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder. (4) Identify the various treatment options when first-line interventions do not result in adequate clinical improvement. Suicide: The Myths and Facts of Antidepressant Therapy: At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to: (1) Identify risk factors associated with the use of antidepressants and increased suicidal behavior and suicidal ideation.(2)Compare the clinical outcomes related to suicide from recent antidepressant trials assessing the effectiveness of depression treatment in children, adolescents, and adults. (3) Explain the clinical impact on depression treatment and suicide rates before and after the introduction of FDA mandated suicidality warnings. (4) Design a treatment regimen with monitoring parameters for a patient with depression that includes nonpharmacologic therapy, antidepressants, and adjunctive agents.
