At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to: (1) Identify signs and symptoms of acute withdrawal, acute intoxication, and chronic dependency associated with alcohol, opiates, and nicotine. (2) Describe the pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic properties for pharmacotherapy used in the treatment of substance use disorder. (3) Apply evidence-based strategies for selecting appropriate pharmacotherapy for a patient with substance use disorder. (4) Develop a monitoring plan that includes assessment of efficacy, adverse effects, drug interactions, and toxicity.
