At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant should be able to: (1)List the major mechanisms responsible for drug metabolism (2) Describe the major enzyme systems in the body that are responsible for oxidation, reduction and/or hydrolysis of selective pharmacological agents, (3)Describe the basic principles of how drug metabolism alters drug action.(4) Explain how drugs are chemically altered by cytochromep-450, (5)Explain how drug-induced enzyme induction and inhibition can alter responses to drugs,(6) Discuss the basic clinical interactions that can result from changes in drug metabolism during co-administration of drugs. (7) Discuss the basic principles of how pharmacogenomic differences impact drug metabolism.
